Will it stop the glass from being broken?
No. When someone strikes the glass on the outside, the glass will normally break. However, the film will hold the glass pieces in place securely.
Does it make the glass stronger?
No. The glass is not made stronger, but the 3M security film adhered to the glass makes the whole unit (glass and film) considerably stronger.
How long will it last?
3M Scotchshield security film is guaranteed by 3M, the manufacturer, never to break down, lose its strength, bubble, peel, discolour or lose its optical clarity, in writing. Residential Installation Warranty = Lifetime of the original purchaser. Commercial Installation Warranty = 12 Years. Warranty is not transferable.
Is the 3M security film on the inside or outside of the glass?
3M Scotchshield security film is always put on the inside. Otherwise, it could be cut and entry made easily. Also, window film placed on the outside will break down quickly in the weather.
Can people cut through the glass and film with glass cutters?
No. Glass cutters only scratch the surface of glass and don't cut all the way through, even if used around the edge. The film holds the glass in place and it cannot be pushed out.
Are all window films the same?
Definitely not! Other security films are old technology, whereas 3M Scotchshield security film is a patented, modern technology made of up to 42 micro thin layers in a criss cross pattern. This technology is totally unique and exclusive to 3M Scotchshield film.
Will it lose its strength?
No. 3M's patented technology will not break down and is proven to be stronger in tear resistance tests than its competitors. When impact tested it is twice as strong as similar thickness ordinary security films.
Can people see inside?
Clear film - yes. Tinted film - it varies depending on the light density of the film. Usually it's hard to see people inside during the day from the outside. Vision is quite clear from the inside looking out.
How do I clean it?
3M window film is simple and easy to clean. It can be wiped with a clean, damp rag. We recommend simple warm water with a little dishwashing liquid. For tougher dirt, limited use of an ammonia based cleaner like Windex is OK but we don't recommend it's use regularly. Warning: don't use anything abrasive or you will scratch the film.
